Kaudulla is a National Park of Sri Lanka located 197 km away from Colombo. Designated a national park in 2002, Kaudulla ( 6656 ha elephant corridor between
Somawathiya Chaitya
(Stupa) and Minneriya National Park ) is the 15th
such area on the island.
Kaudulla Wewa, the ancient man made lake was built by
the sister of great tank builder King Mahasena (276-303 AD).
Best time to visit is between August & December and the main attraction is herds of migrating elephants, mainly in the month of October.
Mammals: leopards, fishing cats, sambar deer, the endangered rusty spotted cat, sloth bear.
Birds: cormorants, painted storks and many other species.
