Location - Kaudulla -Sri-Lanka

 
Kaudulla is a National Park of Sri Lanka located 197 km away from Colombo. Designated a national park in 2002, Kaudulla ( 6656 ha elephant corridor between Somawathiya Chaitya (Stupa) and Minneriya National Park ) is the 15th such area on the island. 
Kaudulla Wewa, the ancient man made lake was built by the sister of great tank builder King Mahasena (276-303 AD). 
Best time to visit is between August & December and the main attraction is herds of migrating elephants, mainly in the month of October.

Mammals: leopards, fishing cats, sambar deer, the endangered rusty spotted cat, sloth bear.
Birds: cormorants, painted storks and many other species.

Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka.The park covers 979 square kilometres (378 sq mi) and is located about 300 kilometres (190 mi) from Colombo.
Yala was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900, and, along with Wilpattu it was one of the first two national parks in Sri Lanka, having been designated in 1938.

The park is best known for its variety of wild animals. It is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan Elephants and aquatic birds.
Yala hosts a variety of ecosystems ranging from moist monsoon forests to freshwater and marine wetlands. It is one of the 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in Sri Lanka. Yala harbours 215 bird species including six endemic species of Sri Lanka.
The number of mammals that has been recorded from the park is 44, and it has one of the highest leopard densities in the world.

The area around Yala has hosted several ancient civilisations. Two important pilgrim sites, Sithulpahuwa and Magul Vihara, are situated within the park.

The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami caused severe damage on the Yala National Park and 250 people died in its vicinity.

Sri Lankan Sambar Deer (Rusa unicolor unicolor) is a sub-species of Sambar Deer that lives in Sri Lanka.

Location: Mihintale, Sri-Lanka



A mountain peak near Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. This was the historic place where the Buddhist priest Arahat Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa met for the first time, on a full moon poya day in June, which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrimage site, and the site of several religious monuments and abandoned structures.
Heinz E Müller-Dietz (Historia Hospitalium 1975) describes Mihintale Hospital as being the oldest in the world.
